Performing Arts at Masibambane College
Discipline, social intelligence and leadership skills are what we strive to give to our learners through our exciting cultural programmes. Dance, drama and marimbas are the soul of the College, accompanied by other educational and motivational programmes to provide a healthy body and mind. Through dance our learners get to explore traditional Pedi, Tsonga and Zulu dance, as well as modern contemporary styles facilitated by Coach Sheila Mahambane.
Our drama department has two coaches namely, Bonga Mdluli and Tshepiso Phahlane. The pair always strives to bring social awareness in an entertaining and comical manner while proudly representing us in various arts festivals including at the Market Theatre, Hillbrow Theatre and the annual Grahamstown National Arts Festival.
The enchanting African rhythms infused with modern trends by our creative marimba teachers, Thabiso Masike and Tshililo Tshifhiwa and their bands in Junior and Senior Phases have captured so many audiences and have been the highlight of many occasions. The bands have also had the pleasure of performing internationally in London, Vienna and New York.
Altogether, our performing students not only share their wonderful talents on different stages nationwide but are also a great help in organising and providing entertainment at the College’s calendar events which include the Family Fun Day, Father’s Day, the Annual Concert and our Prize-giving. Another event not to be missed is our ‘Friends & Family Theatre Showcase’, whereby our performing students collaborate with young people from the community in a talent explosion like no other!
